Create a gift card

Learn how to create and distribute gift cards for your promotional campaigns

One of the simplest strategies to attract customers is to run large promotions for specific products, supported by extensive advertising or email marketing. This is why gift cards were created—to help brands effectively develop coupon-based campaigns by linking unique codes to specific gift cards installations. By using your customers' digital wallets to store these cards, you can understand the real-time impact of your campaigns. You can track gift card installations, which helps you determine their genuine intent to use them and assess their effectiveness.

Let's revise step-by-step how to create a gift cards campaign.

Anonymous coupon design

Campaign creation

To start the anonymous coupon campaign, go to "Campaigns > Anonymous Coupons" and click the "Create Campaign" button in the top right corner.

Now you can see two cards. On the right is a simulation of how the gift card will appear in customer wallets, and on the left is the configuration for this card, lets revise the left card and the meaning of each field.

Name

You define the campaign name in a single field. This name is used internally and determines how the slug of your URL will appear. As a result, the slug of your campaign will reflect this name in the URL.

Look & Feel

In this section, you will design your gift card, including the colors, banner, and title that will appear on it. You can preview your design on the right card, available on both iOS and Android. This design will be the same for all customers who install the card on their phones.

Availability

This section allows you to select one of the previously created coupons by name from the dropdown menu. The second configuration in this section is the toggle for the public claimable campaign. Let's review what this means and the typical use case for each scenario.

Public Active

Any customer with the URL can claim a new unique code and download the gift card without needing a unique code in the URL.
This is the typical case for promotions on public signage or advertisements in media.
Adding a QR code there and enable to the customers to download a unique code.

Public Inactive

If the URL is inactive, it must end with a valid unique code from this campaign to enable downloading. If the URL lacks a valid unique code, an error will be displayed.
This scenario is common in email promotions designed to distribute coupons to specific customers. For these campaigns, use the "export codes" functionality to distribute the codes effectively.
Follow our guide to gain a deeper understanding of how this functionality works.

This section cannot be changed after the first gift card installation, so please proceed with caution.

Unique Codes

This is where you associate the specific discount with your gift card campaign. As in many other sections of the app, you could create a discount on Shopify or upload your CSV file with unique codes to link each code with every gift card.

Shopify Discounts

You can create a Shopify discount with a basic configuration. We will set up a discount on Shopify that includes at least five unique codes initially. We will add more unique codes whenever we need to deliver additional gift cards, so you won't have to worry about that. We will create a unique code for each new gift card.

Upload CSV

You can upload up to 100,000 unique codes using a CSV file, and we will provide these codes for each gift card. We always display a progress bar to show how many unique codes are left, so you can track this in advance. Once the campaign has consumed all the unique codes, it will automatically stop working.
